Trinity College Dublin

Trinity College Dublin currently uses a patchwork of platforms Blackboard, MyTCD, Panopto, Collaborate, and the TCD Library system to deliver learning, resources, and communication. While each tool serves a purpose, students find themselves constantly switching between systems, missing important updates, and struggling with fragmented experiences.

This project reimagines the Trinity portal as a centralised, student-first hub that unifies academics, campus life, and wellbeing into one seamless platform.

challenge.

Students reported frustration with the current digital experience, citing fragmented systems that require too many logins and scattered tools, along with poor visibility of events, societies, and career opportunities. They felt there were limited ways to connect with peers, staff, and alumni, while essential support services such as mental health, international student resources, and accessibility were difficult to find.

On top of this, the portal lacked personalisation, leaving it static and not student-centric. The key challenge was clear: how might we create one central, user-friendly hub that brings together academics, community, and wellbeing all while reducing friction and complexity.

result.

The solution envisioned was not just another portal, but a unified digital ecosystem that reframes how students interact with their university. At its core, the design consolidates fragmented systems into a single, intuitive dashboard where courses, grades, deadlines, and events coexist seamlessly. Beyond academics, the platform is structured to actively cultivate community integrating societies, study groups, language exchange, and alumni mentoring to foster meaningful connections. Critical support services, from counselling and wellness programs to safety tools, are elevated to the forefront, ensuring they are visible and accessible when students need them most.

Career development is embedded as a continuous journey, with internships, CV workshops, and career fairs surfaced contextually rather than buried in separate systems. The approach emphasises mobile-first usability, personalisation, and inclusive accessibility, positioning the portal as more than an administrative tool. It becomes a living, adaptive hub one that not only streamlines the student experience, but actively supports growth, wellbeing, and belonging across the campus community.
